Riverton Lodge Shetland Stud

The mares at Riverton Lodge have been carefully selected, for firstly their temperaments and the ability to pass on good sound trainable minds, secondly their type, height and movement. Shetlands are mostly used as children's ponies or for harness, so they have to be able to move smoothly and cover the ground well. Over approximately 18 years of breeding we have achieved a well mannered band of broodmares all of which could hold their own in the show ring. Some have had a successful show ring career before entering the broodmare band themselves. Here is a small selection of them.

Riverton Lodge Chanel. approx 10hh 6 yrs old. She certainly looks it but we are hoping that she is in foal to Monte. Chanel is by Shady Glen Gayman out of Derwent View Michelle. Michelle has been an influential mare here at RL. We have 3 of her daughters. Spotfire, Mascara and Chanel (above) and 3 grand daughters Revlon and Maybelline and Loreal and great grand daughter Impulse. Sadly Chanel lost her foal this season.

Seen here in her woolly finest, is one of the first registered shetland mares we purchased, Sefton Park Billie Dee 10.1hh. Billie has produced over the years some of the best children's ponies. She has a super temperament making her a favorite when shown for the children's handler classes.

Riverton Lodge Martina is by our wonderful stallion Otway View Montecarlo. Martina has now joined the broodmare band having produced to OV Royal Jest a wonderful palomino and white filly Julz. This is another of our oldies Paluka Showgirl. A hugely successful  mare in the under 9.2hh classes in her prime she has gone on to produce top show winners such as Riverton Lodge Mialooka.

And how could we forget Spottie aka RL Miss Spotfire, she is a favorite here and everyone that meets her wants to take her home, a true people pony who is a real character. A homozygous pinto, meaning no matter what colour stallion we put to her we will always get a pinto. Sadly Spottie is a bit hard to get in foal so has only produced one foal for us a lovely chestnut and white colt to OV Royal Jest. Has been put in foal to SG Stardom for a 09 foal.Mother and daughter. The grey is Lordonvale Sally and the chestnut is Ashbury Lodge Eva. Both are in foal this season to Shady Glen Stardom, this will be the first foal for Eva and the first foals produced for us for the both of them so we can't wait. Sally and Eva have foaled. Sally has a bay colt and Eva has a black filly both very tall.  

Riverton Lodge Mialooka seen here at the 2004 Pinto State Championships and on the right just before she foaled. One of the most successful mares for Riverton Lodge in the Shetland Ring and the Pinto ring. Looka has won numerous Hi Point awards in the mare section of the Pinto society as well as Owner Breeder Exhibitor and helped her Junior handler to win a few awards along the way as well. Looka produced for us a lovely little pally and white filly by OV Royal Jest whom we called Shezalooka aka as little looka. Little looka was purchased by Domino Downs stud in Victoria and we wish them all the success possible with this gorgeous little girl. We are hoping that Looka is in foal this season.

Kobyboyn Sasha. Lovely big 10hh black. Bought from Lerwick sale. She spent some time at Marbet stud getting in foal to Wandarra Stardom before coming here to stay. Sasha's first foal was a lovely little black filly Stella which we sold to Hope Stud in QLD. We are even more impressed with her second filly by Monte whom we have called Monique see her on the foal page.

Riverton Lodge Revlon. Sire Shady Glen Gayman Dam Riverton Lodge Mascara. Revlon has the sweetest little head and ears, only small she stands at around 8.3hh but boy can she move in these two photo's one above and the one below she is only a youngster the photo was taken on a very nice day in winter. Later that year she attended the Royal Hobart Show bringing home Junior Champion Shetland not bad for a second show. Revlon has joined our broodmare band and has given us a sweet but very bold little brown buckskin colt by Jest. We have called him Hugo Boss you can see Hugo on the foal page.  Revlon has foaled. Grulla filly by Jest.

Riverton Lodge Kaffay - Shady Glen Gayman x Maylaura Danielle (dec) This mare is the funniest thing. Colour was so totally unexpected. We found out that Danny was actually a buckskin!! Unfortunately Danny passed away when Kaffay was only 3 months old, because Danny was an older mare we don't think Kaffay quite got the nutrition she needed either. Born in a bad year too she had the odds stacked against her. Kaffay was lucky that year as DV Michelle also had a foal at foot this was Chanel and when Michelle or Chanel wasn't looking Kaffay ducked in for a suckle. She didn't really thrive and all the foals around her were much much bigger but what she lacked in size she certainly has made up for in personality. She will follow you around like a pet dog. Always comes running when you call and it usually first at the gate and last to leave. We have tried her a couple of times to get in foal but no luck as yet. Will try with Sonny when he gets a bit older will be interesting to see what colour they produce together.

Ashbury Lodge Eva. This girl came to us when the Ashbury Lodge stud ceased breeding. We have tried a couple of times to get her in foal and we are hoping this season to have been successful. We put her and her mother Lordonvale Sally to Shady Glen Stardom. Eva and Sally have foaled.
